IHG is NOT dead on Firefox 48+
« on: October 07, 2016, 03:48 am »
I have Firefox 49.0.1 64bit right now with IHG 1.7.0.4a running fine.

With Firefox 48 they made the signed addons verification mandatory with no way in about:config to disable it. The setting still exists there but is ignored.
However someone found out another way that works and it can be found here: http://pagebin.com/vrep2NPy

If you have a portable apps version of Firefox though the paths will be slightly different.

Hi and thank you.
I tested it and the step-by-step is working.

Tip
When you found out the folder where your installation of FireFox is you can also
unpack the attached zip document. I contains folder structure and the two files
which are needed to be created.

If your Firefox Folder is under
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
you can unzip it there with "extract" via windows directly under
C:\Program Files (x86)\
because the zip contains  the folder "Mozilla Firefox".

Makes it easier on step 6+7
(On windows 10 i was not allowed out of the box to create a "file" there.
I created them somewhere else and pasted them.)

I hope i did not make it too complicated. My intention was to make it easier.

Thanks John877 for the info. I followed the step-by-step instructions and it works great in Firefox current version 49.0.2 (32 bit). Windows wouldn't let me create the two .js files in the Firefox Mozilla directory, so I created them in another folder and copied them there. Imagehost Grabber is the only thing I use the Pale Moon Browser for, so I'm very happy to be using it in Firefox again! Thanks again!

P.S. - Thank you Firewaran for the shortcut!

Hi guys. There's a slightly easier solution.

You just install the "UnBranded" version of FireFox:
Code: [Select]
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Extension_Signing#Unbranded_Builds
The "UnBranded" version of FireFox is EXACTLY the same as the official stable version.
The only differences are:
- "UnBranded" allows unsigned addons BY DEFAULT (no need to mess with any settings).
- FireFox logo does not appear (but of course, like stable FireFox, you can add whatever theme you want).

You can copy your existing FireFox user PROFILE.
The "UnBranded" version will use it without any adjustments or changes.
Of course, you can also create a new user profile & start from scratch.

Currently, I am using FireFox 49.0.1 (UnBranded version) with IHG 1.7.0.4a.
Works fine.

Thanks for the help. I hadn't heard of the unbranded version before.

This keeps amazing me. It's like some guy has a 9mm pointed at your groin and you know he is eventually going to pull the trigger and blow off your penis but month after month after month you still have your penis!

The answer is same as usual. One day Firefox will entirely kill IHG. Nobody knows when.

I think we should organize a counterstrike and draw down on them before they draw down on us! ;) ;) ;)

Yeah, seriously Pale Moon is our only fall back plan. Fortunately it appears they plan to keep the essential parts that IHG requires for its functioning. If they ever make any changes that break IHG and won't fix them then that will be the end of IHG.

Actually you could still use IHG on an obsolete Firefox running in a virtual machine, then move the images before shutting down the VM. The VM might get infected by a virus but that would disappear as soon as you delete the VM. Regardless of what you hear, you can't put a virus in an image. However you could put its code in the image if you had some other way of activating it.

However I doubt Pale Moon will desert us like Firefox has. I doubt we'll ever need the VM approach. More likely, Uploaded and the other file hosts will get more business from people who don't like other image rippers.

I switched to firefox unbranded (Nightly), didn't work for shit until I downloaded and unzipped that linked file, and shoved it in the appropriate firefox/nightly folder. Works now, thanks!
